My Candid Moments

Miss M has been a regular client of mine for the past four years.  She is always fun to photographer, in part, because her Mom comes up with the most amazing party ideas and each year her portraits reflect that theme.  The first year she was a princess, just a pretty and pink.  Her second birthday had a western theme including hat and horse, that was so much fun!  Then last year it was all little girl with a Tea Partea!  I was wondering what she could do to top that image.

This year it was ROCK STAR.  Miss M, it would seem, loves all things Hannah.  She and her Dad play rock band on the PlayStation so it was only fitting that we do things up for her portrait this year and made her into a mini rock star.

He is what started this journey into being a photographer.  This boy.  He changed my life. Until he entered the world I was very happy as a librarian and that was all I wanted to do was work in  a library.  I was laid off just before I learned I was pregnant, and I remember being 7 months pregnant and doing an interview for a job.  I was excited about the job, I wanted that job and I was heart broken when I didn’t get that job.  Then I had my boy. I realized when he was six weeks old, I would not have been ready to go back to work, I would not have been happy.

So I started to think of what I liked to do, what was I good at and what would allow me to stay home.  I had always loved photography, enjoyed it.  I am not sure what motivated me but sometime around the summer he was three — I decided to go for it and start a business.  To take my hobby and passion and make it into a business.  It took another year before I was really ready (something about getting pregnant and having Miss K shortly after I figured out I wanted to do this).

I love doing one year old sessions.  They typically NEVER go as planned and always go according the the wishes of the one year old.  That is when the ‘magic’ happens.  It is the moment that you let them direct the session you get the biggest smiles and the most natural candid expressions.  At this age the expressions are genuine, weather they are happy or not! 

So, for me, the excitment is that the same combination of things will never yield the same results twice.   I think the most challenging part of any one year old session is to get them looking at you – they would prefer to explore and are always going the opposite direction of where you are.

Little Miss M – was so full of life and giggles – just what being  ONE is all about!  I had a great time watching her explore and give us some amazing laughs as she played.  I was also very excited that I got to try out one of two new chairs that I have — this find has to be my FAVORITE all time chair for this age.   I hope to get your gallery to you soon little Miss. M!

Another week has gone by and we are back to Wordless Wendsday~

I have had the pleasure of photographing little Miss M since she was born, nearly three years ago.  Every year we do a session in December for her milestone, so that we can use the photos when we create her custom party invitations.  Each year her Mom has fun and amazing themes for her parties.  Last year it was a Western theme, complete with stick horses and cowboy hats.  This year she is doing a Tea Partea!  I love the idea and her hats!

I first photographed this cutie two years ago.  During that session she refused to play much and I had to work for every shot.  Fast forward to today, she was so fun and energetic and WANTED to play with her sisters!

Fast forward and look at her now!  She is all smiles and ready for her day infront of the camera!

I was so excited to photograph this little girl.  She is the cutest little thing.  Her personality really shines and best of all she ADORES my little girl.  I think she will make a fantatic babysitter in a few years.  Her Mom is a fantastic women as well.  Someone whom I really admire, as it is not easy to raise children today and she’s doing a marvlous job raising hers. This was truly a fun session for me!
